Colombia Huila – Bruselas

Regional Coffee

The most important producing area of the Municipality of Pitalito in the south of Huila, is located in the confluence of the Central and Eastern Andean mountain chains, offering a special setup for coffee production. This small town (“corregimiento” in Spanish) has been recognized with the highest record of specialty coffees awards. In this region most of the producers are smallholders. During many years of hard work, SKN had developed hundreds of producers of Bruselas in  several sustainable programs. To ensure the best quality in the coffee, our sustainability team is constantly training the farmers on good farm management, selective picking, a delicate wet mill and sun-dried process. In the last years the coffee culture in the region has changed, moving from a high-volume production to a specialty coffee production. The varieties found in the highlands are mostly Castillo, Colombia and Caturra. The combination of varieties, altitude, microclimate, innovation, and great teamwork between SKN and the farmers delivers a delightful cup.
