Malawi Pamwamba

Cooperative Coffee

Our Malawi Pamwamba Coffee is selected from the best coffee quality that comes from an Estate in Malawi. The Estate is Rainforest Alliance Certified. The annual rainfall varies between 850 to 1,335 mm. There are three rivers running through the estate, Mpeni River, Ngapani River and the Nsondole River. The Mpeni river fuels the Mpeni Dam and has a capacity of 3 million cubic meters of water. The coffee is supported by supplementary irrigation from the Mpeni Dam, which is in the form of filtered drip irrigation.
The varieties of coffee planted are a mixture of SL28 and Catimor 129, which are jointly harvested to form a varietal blend. The flowering is traditionally triggered post the first rains in early November and with the early flowering fly picking of mature cherry starting in late May. The main crop harvest is over June to August and with end crop stripping during late September. The harvested coffee is pulped in the estates wet mill and sun dried, with the dry parchment being held and conditioned for approximately six weeks, prior to being sent for dry milling and grading at the mill, which is situated just north of Limbe, some 252 Kms from the estate. There is comprehensive traceability from field to bags.
