Finca El Cascajal is located in Aldea San Nicolas, in the municipality of Esquipulas, Chiquimula, in eastern Guatemala. The farm was founded in 1992 by Don Francisco Amadeo Palencia Rivas and has since developed into a model farm focused on quality, innovation and environmental conservation. Covering around 665 hectares, with 550 hectares dedicated to coffee, El Cascajal produces Catuaí, Caturra, Bourbon and Pacamara. Around 90% of the coffee is grown under shade, surrounded by native trees and diverse vegetation.
The farm is also home to an exceptional variety of flora and fauna, with 176 bird species and 112 species of orchids. Among them is Ornithocephalus cascajalensis Archila, an orchid discovered on the farm in 2011. Beyond coffee production, El Cascajal serves as a center for agricultural technology and knowledge, sharing experience with local farmers and development organizations. Their approach combines high-quality coffee production with a strong commitment to protecting the unique ecosystem surrounding the farm.
